At Rossendale Piano, the safety and wellbeing of my students is paramount, and I am committed to implementing and maintaining safe teaching practices.

Qualifications and Compliance

• Enhanced DBS check

• Safeguarding Level 2 certification, with the most recent refresher course completed in March 2026

My safeguarding practice follows current UK legislation and guidance, including recommendations from EPTA UK

Lesson Supervision and Personal Care

• All lessons take place in my home studio, in an open and visible space

• One parent or responsible adult may remain present if desired

• If a student is not independent in their personal care, a parent or guardian must remain on-site for the full lesson to supervise 

Physical Contact and Teaching Practice

• Following guidance from EPTA UK, teaching is primarily through demonstration

• Hands and arms may be guided, and only when necessary to support a student's technical development or understanding of physical technique

• Contact with hands and arms is minimal, appropriate, and used only when demonstration is not sufficient

CCTV Monitoring

For transparency and safety, indoor cameras record all lessons, and these recordings are securely stored in the cloud for 30 days before automatic deletion

Professional Conduct and Safeguarding

• I maintain professional boundaries at all times

• I communicate openly and respectfully with parents and guardians

• I record any safeguarding concerns promptly and securely

• I take appropriate action in the event of a concern, in line with statutory guidance

Confidentiality will be respected, but cannot be guaranteed where a child’s safety is at risk

Recitals and External Events

For any performances, recitals, or exams outside the teaching environment:

• Students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian

• The accompanying adult is responsible for the student's supervision and safety at all times

This policy is regularly reviewed and updated in response to:

• Changes in safeguarding legislation or guidance

• Training updates and professional development

• Any relevant incidents or changes in teaching practices
